Plumbing in Amarillo: who a machine has the most to say about

I ran 7 plumbing websites in Amarillo, TX through the same seventeen checks — one visit to the homepage, one to robots.txt, no login, nothing they had to agree to. This is not a ranking of who does better work. It measures one thing: how much a language model can read, believe and repeat about each of them when somebody asks it who to call.

Three of the 7 give it enough to work with.

MEDIAN SCORE IN THIS GROUP: 48/100 · MEASURED AUGUST 20, 2026

The three

Ordered by how many of the four things a model needs are present — not by the score on the right, which is why the scores do not run in order. A page can collect points on headings and image captions and still have nothing quotable on it. Being here says a machine can describe them. It says nothing about their work, their crews or what they are like to hire.

What the other 4 are missing

Same four things, counted across all 7 sites in the group. No names — if you want to know where you personally land, run your own site below, it takes about eight seconds.

Have their name, address and phone in plain text with LocalBusiness markup around it 1 OF 7

Without it an assistant has to guess your hours, your area and your number. It guesses wrong, or it picks someone it doesn't have to guess about.

Put a real number about money on the page 0 OF 7

Not a full price list — a range, a minimum, a diagnostic fee. A model repeats sentences. "Contact us for pricing" is not a sentence anyone can repeat.

Say how fast they come out, or what hours they keep 2 OF 7

"Who can come today" is the question. A page that never answers it loses to a page that does, every time.

Answer at least one real question in question-and-answer form 0 OF 7

This is the shape an assistant lifts from. A page of marketing paragraphs has nothing to lift.

How this was measured

One request to the homepage and one to robots.txt, from a normal browser user agent, on August 20, 2026. Seventeen checks, scored out of 100 — the same scanner that runs on the public page, so anyone can reproduce any number here on their own site. The four rows above are the subset that decides whether a model has raw material: who you are, what it costs, how fast you come out, and whether a single real question is answered on the page.

This group is part of a larger measurement of U.S. home service websites — the method, the full check list and the open data are in the index write-up.

Two honest limits. One: these are 7 plumbing companies in Amarillo, TX that I could reach and measure — not every one in the city, and not a random sample of it. Two: a homepage is not a business. A company with a thin website can be the best in town, and a company at the top of this list can be terrible to deal with. This measures the page, and only the page.
